To maintain security of an independent house or a society apartment or an organization, it has become very essential to hire security services in today’s age of crimes and thefts. But, at the same time, it is very difficult to choose the best one as a number of Security Services in UK are coming up, offering a wide range of services.

We give below some guiding tips to help you choose the perfect Security Services Provider in London:

Already a reputed name in the locality: The security service provider should have a long history of providing services so that they are the most prominent names in the area. Check out the security stamps and stickers in cars and society gates nearby to get an idea.

Guarantee and warranty: Make sure that the service provider offer products like CCTV, alarms, sirens which come with guarantee and warranty, so that for any kind of defects, they can be exchanged or repaired. It’s no point choosing a company that installs security products with no guarantee.

24 hours service: The security agent that you choose should provide 24 hours security. This means that it should have a good number of staff so that they can take turns to provide security duty.

Services: What type of security services does the company offer and what exactly is your requirement?
Insurance: It is better to choose a security agent that provides insurances for its staff.

Armed or Unarmed: Are the security guards armed or unarmed? This of course depends on your preference.

Trained staff: The service provider should have its security staff properly trained so that they can handle any crisis.

Rate: Last but not the least, make a survey of the rates charged by different security service providers. There are some who provide limited services but at a high rate. If you feel that a particular service provider is the best agent but very expensive, then go for the second option or the third option. It is better to choose one that provides all the services that you want, but at a reasonable rate. Also, a time period of 6 months is sufficient to find out whether the security service provider is good or bad.

According to IDC, over the next five years the global market for managed security services will grow four times faster than the market for security products. No surprise that managed services and its cousin, dynamic provisioning, were hot topics at Ignite. As security has bubbled up to the top of the list of CIO concerns, enterprises are looking to managed services as an important part of the solution to some overarching problems:

There are staff and expertise shortages. Enterprises are finding it hard to find qualified security professionals.

Staffs are overwhelmed by too much firefighting and alerts, by new initiatives (BYOD, Cloud) and by compliance/regulatory burdens.

Processes for change control and incident response are inefficient. It takes too long to do simple tasks like a firewall rule change.

In spite of higher spending on security, the risk of data breach keeps going up.

Each of these items can be visualized as an arrow going in the wrong direction. Managed security services providers (MSSP) are in a great position to turn those arrows around – but only if they take a comprehensive approach. What are the ingredients?

A sound technology foundation. Managing a dog’s breakfast of point products is problem shifting, not problem solving.

Automated provisioning. Minimize the truck rolls, the hardware installs and the number of manual steps and processes needed to turn up a new customer or add services to an existing customer.

Streamlined change control with fewer errors.

Automated threat response. The world of hacking is automated – that is why WildFire sees thousands of new pieces of malware every day. Without an automated response system, automated malware will win every time.

Security and compliance working together. Spending on compliance has too often come at the expense of real security. Positive security controls, integrated reporting and full visibility is how to get security and compliance back into alignment.

The world’s leading MSSPs have adopted the Palo Alto Networks Enterprise Security Platform as their foundation for managed services offerings. Here is how Palo Alto Networks works with and supports our MSSP partners as they deploy and deliver managed services that are a win-win for them and their customers.

Close Protection Operative – CPO

Working as a Close Protection Operative – CPO

Working as a Close Protection Operative or otherwise known as a CPO will often include the protection of high profile clients, increased global travel and an introduction to some of the finest things money can buy. It is a fast paced environment that is often associated with “not what you know but who you know”. Job title is vanity, work is sanity and reputation is reality. Reputation within the Security Industry will be the deciding factor that leads to employment for most, and you will only ever be as good as your last job.

Employment within any industry has to start somewhere and this blog post is aimed at giving you the information on how to not only become a Close Protection Operative but to safeguard your reputation and progress within the Private Security Industry.

The role of the Close Protection Operative

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) state that the role of the Close Protection Officer is:

To establish and maintain a safe working environment in which a Principal can live and work whilst continuously minimising risk. The Role of Close Protection encompasses ALL aspects of protective measures that work in concert; physical and technical combined with constant thorough planning and sound operational to negate/ minimalise risk or the threat of risk to kill/ injure/ or harm another in any way.

Everybody has to start somewhere

Becoming a licensed and qualified Close Protection Operative is a relatively simple process but gaining employment and developing the reputation that leads on to recommendations for employment is a challenge that all new CPOS face.

There is a very useful guide online to help you with the process of gaining your SIA license and this can be found here: SIA, Get licensed

An SIA license costs £220.00 and should be considered within your financial planning. From experience the process takes from 2 – 6 weeks, but can take longer if the form is not filled out correctly. As part of this process the SIA will conduct a criminal record check so it is advised that you use this useful on-line tool to assist in determining whether you will be granted a license.

Training Requirements

You must complete a Level 3 award in Close Protection, This course is typically 14 – 21 days long and must be accredited by one of the following awarding bodies:

Buckinghamshire New University (BNU)

City & Guilds

There is no Hostile Close Protection Course that is accredited and recognised by the SIA however some training companies will add hostile elements to the course.
